I am SO happy, a fantastic doctor in our area said he'd take on my case. For the locals, it's Dr. Destefano. This is FANTASTIC because he doesn't usually work with Hoosier Healthwise patients, much less high risk ones, but he made an exception for me (!!!!!!!!!!). I called and asked a second time if he would take me(I had asked a couple weeks ago), and got a different nurse who really pleaded my case to him. I wasn't even annoying or overly persistent, I swear.
This is great for a few reasons.
-He has a lot of experience delivering twins (probably the most experience around here) and won't push a C section.
-This means I don't have to go into appointments fighting for what I want-- a normal birth unless medically necessary for my/babies' safety.
-This also means that I can trust him if a C section does become necessary, and that's fine. It's just the automatic C section for no good reason that I'm opposed to.
The more I learn about twin birth, the more it seems like an art form, so it's really good to get someone with experience. If your squeamish, don't read this, but the really complicated part is delivering baby number two. Usually baby number one comes out fine, but as soon as number one is out, there is so much room that number two flips around into weird positions. This is also complicated because everything is so stretched out from going from two to one baby that contractions aren't as effective in moving baby number two down where she needs to go. So, the doctor usually has to manually rotate the baby (um, internally. Maybe don't think about that.). That takes a lot of know-how to do it right. Crazy, huh? Good thing this doc has done it many many times and he ACTUALLY ACCEPTED ME!!!!!
So, here's the thing. He's not making any money off of me, this is basically charity work for him. Especially considering the higher liability and the more frequent appointments I'll need (I start going every-other-week in about six weeks, crazy). AND because his panel is full right now and he doesn't usually personally take people with my insurance, he's doing extra paperwork to fit me in. My question is, does anyone think it's weird/creepy/inappropriate to bring him cookies at my appointment next week? I am SO grateful, but I don't want to be a weirdo. Thoughts?
Thanks for the input, all!

YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!!!! I love him! We should totally sync up our appointments to hang out in the waiting room together.
And no, I don't think it's weird to bring him cookies. BUT... I almost made the OB who delivered Connor cookies (because he didn't do a c-section despite me being prepped for it and it being 1am... and instead opted to let me push for another hour to have a vaginal delivery). And I still regret not bringing him cookies. He would love them.
YAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!
Hello long lost friend!! Just wanted to say congrats! I'm so happy that you found someone that will deliver your babies how you want to! As far as the cookies go, remember how I worked for an OB? We got stuff from patients all the time...so not weird at all. I think a nice card to go with it would top it off great! (the cookies will most likely go to the nurses anyway hehe!)I'm sure your are the cutest twins prego mom ever!!
Woohoo! How nice! I was hoping you could find a doctor out there that didn't just go right into a c-section especially if it's what YOU want because I know lots of people that gave birth to twins naturally. As long as you're open to having to have a c-section (which I know you are), I think you should try having the baby however you want. That's awesome for you. And I don't know anyone who would say no to some homemade cookies. : )
I have read every single word of every single post, but I cannot remember why you are high risk... other than the obvious that you're having twins. That doesn't automatically make people high risk, but that's the only thing I can think of. I'm glad that you found a doctor because no lie, I HATE finding a doctor. I am so freaking picky because of how many horror stories I've SEEN, so I know how you feel. With our recent move to Chicago I have endured the enormous nightmare of finding a new doc. It absolutely sucks so I am so glad that you found one. Love and miss you Nels. I couldn't be more jealous that you're having twins!! I can't wait until you're 18-20 weeks so we can all find out what's really in there... boy/girl, girl/girl, boy/boy... FUN!
Thats great news!! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!!!
Thanks guys! Rach, somebody somewhere at one of my appointments told me I was high risk because of twins, so I thought they just call all twins high risk. Maybe it's not true? I hope so because I don't really like that label.
Oh Janelle, I'm sooo happy for you!!! That's great news!! Good luck with all the appointments and I say go for it with the cookies! I'm sure it'll make his day.
I love doctors like that. He sounds like an incredible, good man. I think taking him cookies would be an awesome gesture. I'm so happy you'll be working with someone so stellar!
Bring him the cookies! He deserves them, for so many reasons.
I'm so glad you found Dr. Right.
(That's #1 on Dr. Sears list of "How to Have a Fantastic Birth Experience." Ah, the things I've learned in the past four weeks.)
Hope you are feeling well, can't wait to come back and see your cute belly!
