The day before school started, we took a day trip to Chicago (about 2 hours away).
Millennium Park is like the Central Park of Chicago. It's 24 acres of trees, flowers, fountains, and sculptures in the middle of the big city. We stopped by a big fountain. Dorothy was enamored with the "BIG tubby!"
Our other stop, and by far Dorothy's favorite was the big, FREE zoo in the middle of the park. It was really fantastic. They had a barnyard area, and had as many animals as the big zoos I've been to elsewhere. Lions and tigers and bears, Oh my!
The Sow. I felt so bad for her with her piggy boobs (is there a formal name for that?) hanging down to the floor. It looked really uncomfortable. In the background, you can see all the baby piggies running around in the hay. They were hilarious, they were so happy with that big pile of hay.
Dorothy's favorite, the "Silly goats". These two goats had a disagreement over who was standing in a certain place by the water trough, and so they started rearing up on their hind legs and butting heads. Dorothy squealed and laughed every time they did. Every since then, she'll out of the blue start laughing and say, "Silly goats! BOOM!!" and pretend to butt heads with me. Twice now she actually did hit my head, so I have to be ever watchful.
She looks sad here, but really she was just watching them curiously.
We went out to lunch, walked around a lot, got lost in the city and had to have nice cab drivers give us directions. At the end of the day, we were all tuckered out.
