Dorothy in her birthday outfit that my Mom gave her. She LOVES it. Dallin hates it (it's pink and frilly). I'm neutral because she likes it so much that she'll willingly get dressed, otherwise it's a battle. My Mom did this knowingly, and warned us. She's a nice grandma and got Dorothy what Dorothy wanted, not what her parents want. Just thank you for not getting noise toys Mom, bless you.
Confession #2: I am getting more sleep (and much better sleep) now than when I was pregnant. I think this both reflects well on these babies, and really poorly on how I felt towards the end of the twins' pregnancy. Crazy, huh? It seems backwards to me. When I was pregnant, I was probably getting a combined total of 4-6 hours sleep per night. Now I'm getting more like 5-7 hours per night, less interrupted too. Sweet.
They usually only wake up once at night (and I wake up whichever one is still sleeping), eat and then go right back to sleep. Oh you sweet, good babies. Granted that is still with Dallin waking them up at 10:30/11 ish to feed them, but still, not too shabby.
Confession #3: I like nursing two babies more than I liked nursing just one. It turns out that my massive over production of breast milk that I had with Dorothy (that made my life miserable for a month or two) is coming in handy. (Seriously, I thought that I would never be able to leave the house again because I would surely squirt someone, or at least drench my shirt. Sorry if that's TMI.) Two is better than one because I never end up lopsided or engorged, and I can eat absolutely anything I want. So many calories are going to babies that I need to work to keep up. Sigh. Life is rough.
We've been lucky/blessed. We haven't had to give them any formula yet. I'm sure we will a little bit eventually, but with how strongly Dorothy reacts to dairy, it's nice knowing that things are going swimmingly in that department.
Baby girls. Norah on the left, Ruby on the right.
Confession #4: I really can't tell them apart. The caption above the babies' picture is a guess based on their outfits. I know they look a little different in the picture, but it's all about how they're being held because they have such lovely, luscious cheeks that flop based on how they're sitting. (I have a baby cheeks fetish, can you tell?) I thought I had it figured out when we noticed that their ear lobes were different, but their ears have magically conformed and now they look the same. I thought that I could look at them and guess right most of the time, but when I really counted how many times I was right or wrong, it came down to be about 50% accuracy. Rats.
Even their weights! At their last doctor's appointment, there was only one ounce difference between them. So, Ruby's toes remain red. Let's hope I figure it out at some point, at least before they figure out how to either paint their own toes, or use nail polish remover. Because I'm sure they'd have fun confusing me.
It turns out I didn't have the stomach to keep bows on them every day. Bows are obnoxious.
Confession #5: I have a hard time with the newborn baby stage. I really enjoy parenting once babies become a little more interactive and playful, but the early stage is a struggle for me. I'm trying really hard to slow down and enjoy the mellow days and snuggliness of new babies. Because it does go by quickly (they're FIVE WEEKS OLD!) Anyone else feel the same way?

I love Dorothy's outfit, and you tell how much she does. The babies are so sweet and I am so glad you are adjusting and getting your sleep!
Okay I LOVE this post Janelle! I think all that you do, except I have never had twins.
-I too think I would enjoy feeding two babies as I too have a large milk supply (but I still think two months of being uncomfortable and leaks even now into my 7th month is easier than having two).
-I laughed when you said you can't tell them apart. My mom was telling me this the other day (heard via your mom) and we laughed. Oh they will have a lot of fun with that in the future!
-I try so hard to enjoy Thomas (and I do) as a baby, but I enjoy talking and playing with Lucy a whole lot more. There is something about kids that can talk and make you laugh that is a little more entertaining than a wide-eyed, fat-cheeked baby, drooling and saying "ba ba". But they sure are cute to look at!
And this is a long post, but I just have to say that all three of your girls are so adorable!
Happy Birthday Dorothy!!!
love
Aunt Julia
I really enjoyed reading your blog. You are such a good mom!
Happy Birthday Dorothy!!
snicker, snicker....just exercising Grandma privileges - sorry Dallin - well maybe not, that is part of the fun.
#5--Yes. #4--I'm sure they will develop their own personalities and after all, you are the mom. They may trick others, but they won't fool you! ;) #3,2,1--good stuff, all of it. I'm glad you are sleeping!
Dorothy is darling in her pink fluff. The babies are both beautiful!
