This is the first Christmas where Dorothy could really understand stories, so we tried to teach her as much as we could about Christ's birth and the Christmas story. But lets be real. For those of us who parents tried to teach about Christmas, how many of us actually appreciated the centrality of Christ's birth to the holiday? Anyone? Anyone? (Bueller?)
Presents still seem to take center stage, and I was sure she wouldn't even think of the Christmas story. So I was glad to see Dorothy playing with her nativity set. I like slowing down and nursing, because it makes me slow down enough to really listen to what she says when she's playing. Here's how it went. The little wood figures you see in the pictures are the little nativity set that she gets to play with.
"Doseph brough his dogs to the stable, because there was no hopsital for Mary to have baby Jesus. That's so sad, no hopsital. So... Mary put baby Jesus in hay. And he was so cute. And the angel 'peared, and Doseph said, 'It's okay. The angel is not scary. Don't be 'fraid.'"
This is where the story really starts to converge.
"And then, all the animals wanted to see baby Jesus, 'cause, he was so cute. And then the Bunny family wanted to see baby Jesus too."
"And then, Mary and Doseph left baby Jesus with the animals. And a kangaroo came because he wanted to see the cute baby Jesus. And then, the bunny family died. That's so sad."
One of her favorite presents was this pink sparkly skirt that I picked up at Goodwill. A note on Dorothy-- she likes to wear a girly skirt, undies, and nothing else. Try as I might, as soon as she wakes up or comes home from somewhere, the clothes come off and either her tutu or this skirt go on. So, we roll with it and add another sparkly skirt to the mix. We now have lots of topless Dorothy pictures.
She was thrilled to get her own magazine for Christmas (thanks Lewis fam). She sat there for probably a half of an hour making up stories to go with the pictures. I love her creativity and wild imagination, it keeps me laughing every day.
Merry (late) Christmas family and friends!

AWESOME. I especially like the part about the bunny family dying. That part isn't in my Bible, but I'm very glad that Dorothy has clued me in so that I can incorporate it from now on. Dat's so sad.
Merry Christmas!
Also, we get back on the 1st and should get together, nurse babies on the couch, and let the kids play. And I'm looking forward to hanging with Dorothy on Tuesdays again. :)
I LOVED the Dorothy narration! I laughed when the bunnies died. I am glad you had a great Christmas!
Lovely blackmail material you are gathering for future Dorothy-boyfriends.
