Upon arriving home, Dorothy did the nicest thing she could possibly do to welcome the twins. She let them "hold" her two babies. She doesn't let any other kids so much as touch her baby dolls.
She's been doing well so far, all things considered. Obviously this is a huge adjustment for her, so we're definitely experiencing some turbulence. Overall I think that we'll all, Dorothy included, come out unscathed.
We painted Ruby's toes red and left Norah's au natural. They put bows on the babies' heads at the hospital, and it has been hugely helpful in telling them apart. I'm not usually a bows-glued-on-baby-heads kind of person, but this may just be a necessity. I've looked hard at them, and I can find very little different between them. Norah's cheeks are a tiny bit chubbier, and her skin tone is a little bit more reddish, but those aren't super dependable differences. I think these toes will be our last resort, but we'll depend on bows for our day to day identification.
These babies have been really really good so far. I got 5ish-6ish hours of sleep last night. Not too shabby. They are great nursers, something I was really worried about because Dorothy and I struggled with it so much. We're getting pretty good at double nursing too. And I'm feeling pretty good. It's nice to not be pregnant anymore. I slept flat on my back last night. Aah.
AND... the babes take pacifiers. Whoa. Dorothy never did this, so I am basking in the wonderfulness of laying a baby down awake with a binky and letting them drift off to dreamland happily on their own.

Before.
After.
Yesssssss!!!
PS, I don't know if we ever posted it, but Ruby weighed 6lbs 10 oz and Norah was 7 lbs even. Which makes the breech delivery even more impressive because baby #2 was slightly bigger. Thank you Dr Kirsch!!! The ultrasound was off a bit, but still that's a pretty good size for twinsies. It makes me feel tough. : )

AMAZING. I am in awe of you (and Dr. Kirsch). Plus now you get the bragging rights of having delivered a breech baby!!! Very few women get to say that these days!
They are SO adorable. And I love that you painted Ruby's toenails red. I promise not to switch their nail polish, unlike some other people... :)
I am so glad you are home with the babies! They are so pretty! Dorothy sounds like she will be a great big sister.
They are beautiful and I can't wait to hold them. Congrats!!!!!
You're incredible! You will love laying the babies down awake with a pacifier. Everett was a horrible sleeper as a baby and I attribute it to the fact that I did not lay him down while he was still awake.
Although, those girls are so scrumptious I imagine it would be tough sometimes to lay them down.
I wish I was there to hold them. Identical twin girls! What a dream!
Those toenails are awesome! And everything else about this post is great, too. Love the duck sleeping on the babe.
The babies are so beautiful! I am so jealous! Congrats!!
Oh, they are so cute! I know where to head to get my girl fix. We had our Thanksgiving FHE tonight where we listed off all the things we're thankful for and Jackson shouted out, "The new twins!" You guys are amazing.
I'm glad that made you feel tough, because you totally are! =) Seriously, you are incredible! And you have 3 beautiful daughters! I love the toe-painting for distinguishing the twins. Sounds like a good plan to me!
1. Yummy. Wish I could snuzzle them. They are beautiful.
2. Even Brent said they were darling, and Brent is not the I-love-babies-and-think-they're-so-cute type of guy.
3. I feel bad for Norah not getting any painted toenails. When they're older, and having a tiny argument, what if Ruby says, "yeah, well mom painted MY toenails when I was a brand new baby." Just kidding. Well, not really. Love you guys.
One more thing. I'm guessing that Grandpa Otteson played split-the-pickle, I Love You Thiiiiiis Much, and Kiss Me Right Here, then gave a hearty chuckle and patted their little bottoms before sending them on their way the very next day.
