Notre Dame takes Easter weekend very seriously. On Good Friday there was no school, and our Catholic friends observed the day like a Sabbath, even avoiding all technology.
Saturday Dorothy and I went to the farmer's market in the morning where we got some produce, a bouquet of daffodils that has made our table look so happy, and some maple sugar treats from the syrup lady. Yummy. We headed home to listen to conference and Dallin made the most exquisite scones. Not the girls camp, out of a package, fried kind of scones, but the fluffy, baked triangles that they sell at coffee houses with that perfect, sugary, crispy shell on the outside. It was heaven!
Saturday afternoon, we thought it might be a good idea to try to listen to conference at the church. It didn't work out so well. I think we're fully converted to watching it on the good ol' internet.
Sunday morning, Notre Dame put on a fantastic Easter brunch for students in the big dining hall (Which, by the way, the dining hall in the Harry Potter movie was modeled after in a round-about way. Little facts like this make us cool). It was, in Dorothy's words, fancy. Asparagus with hollandaise! Salmon! Cheesecake! and... slushees. Plus lots of other nummies. We hung out for hours with friends and ate, talked, ate again, talked some more, and ATE. We came home and watched both sessions of conference in a row online. Dorothy and I definitely nodded off (for possibly an extended amount of time, like, a few talks), but Dallin maintained his track record of not falling asleep ever. Impressive, eh?
Tonight, we decided to do a family home evening and attempt to teach Dorothy a little bit about the atonement (while avoiding things that would just scare a two year old, like death by crucifixion, which makes this lesson hard). Dallin put together a slide show of pictures on the computer documenting different things that Christ did. Here's how it went.
Dallin: Dorothy, in this picture, Jesus is teaching the people because he loves them. He loves you, too.
Dorothy: Look, Daddy, look! Jesus is wearing shoes! And there's flowers! Wow, pretty flowers.
Most everything in the lesson went like that. With each picture, all the flowers, dresses, shoes, and animals had to be pointed out before we could proceed too far in the conversation. I'm not complaining. I think it's cute. She did get something out of it, though. We think.
Dorothy in her new Easter dress. She saw it at the store. She held it the entire time in the shopping cart. She hugged it the whole ride home. And she has worn it six days in a row this week. That's right, six. And the only reason she didn't wear it all seven days is that I did wash it at one point.
Brunch.
Watching conference.

Sounds like a lovely weekend! So fun to have a huge dinner like that! I love Dorothy's dress, so funny she wears it every day. We had nice weather too and we both got a little burned from yesterday!
What a fun weekend! I dozed off a little too throughout conference, the sad thing was I was actually in the conference center! Dallin really has never slept through conference??? I don't believe that!
Mmm. The Easter brunch sounds lovely. Dallin, that is quite a track record. Wish I could say the same. I love getting updates from your blog! Milly does too.
Dallin you've become quite the baker, bread now scones. Congratulations! You're learning many skills while going to school, too! Loved the pictures of Florida!
