Some other things this summer

-Dallin and I went on a REAL date to a REAL movie theater and saw Harry Potter. My wonderful, angelic friend babysat our kids in exchange for some mending (doesn't trading that way sound perfectly little-house-on-the-prairie-ish?) I was so excited that I didn't sleep well the night before. I bought Jelly Bellies to eat in the theater in honor of Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans. I got dressed up like a real grown up and even put on jewelry. Yes indeedy, I was excited. It didn't disappoint.

-I had mastitis twice. For those of you who have never had mastitis, it's not like an ear infection where it just hurts, the end. Nooooooo. You get sick sick sick. The first time I had it, it was uncomfortable, but not the end of the world. The second time I thought I was going to die. I spent a few days on the couch trying to appease the babies by periodically throwing toys at them and replaying movies for Dorothy. I'm being a little dramatic, but really, it was yucky-awful-bleh.

-This summer has seen a leap in independence and capability for me with les bebes. Going places isn't the big deal that it used to be. We can go out, go grocery shopping, see friends, go to the zoo, and it's not too overwhelming. It has been so nice. I feel like we've made it.

-We said goodbye to some wonderful friends. I'm realizing more and more that living here is going to be hard. While it's fun to be surrounded by other students, it also means that everyone is very impermanent. It's been sad, some of our closest and favorite friends have left. And we've still got so much time left here! It makes me want to not be friendly anymore, ever.
Just kidding. But it is sad.

-Dallin spent the summer reading for his exams coming up this spring. This meant full days spent with his nose in a book. This included 'Clarissa', a lovely English novel that only those trying to get a PhD or those with WAY too much time on their hands read. It is longer than the Bible, friends. It took Dallin TWO WEEKS, 8+ hour days to read it.
Disgusting. He really enjoyed it. That might even be more disgusting. I suppose this means he picked a good career path.

-As mentioned in my previous post, we took a trip. Here's how it went. We drove into Chicago (two hour drive), flew to California (saw my Mom's side of the family, lovely!), flew back to Chicago, drove to St Paul Minnesota (7 hour drive, saw Dallin's family, also lovely!), then drove back to South Bend (9 hour drive).
All this was crammed into just over a week. We. Did. It. And it was fun, and the travel wasn't too bad (excepting a few awful incidents involving things like barf and tantrums, all in the range of normal on family vacations).

-Ruby slept through the night last night. This was the first time for one of our babies to do that. YAHOO! Now we just need to continue that, and get Norah on board. I miss sleep.

-I turned 25 in June. With my birthday money that I got from parents and grandparents, I got a linen shirt from Eddie Bauer and wool socks. Then I sat and pondered on how that sounded so old and boring. Only old people buy things from Eddie Bauer, and the wool socks need no explanation, old people buy wool socks. Oh well. It fits and maybe I am oldish, because I love my new shirt and my wool socks.

Peace Out!

I'm so sorry about the mastitis! That sounds awful!
I have so much respect for you. Today we started potty training Evelyn and I was so exhausted after one day. And then I thought about you having to do it twice around the same period of time. So in 2-3 years, I'm going to come and help you during that time because it just doesn't sound fun. But knowing you and your amazing skills, it probably will be a cake walk! oh and will you post pictures of Dorothy's new haircut. I heard from my mom that she got one! I'm excited to see the new dew

Mastiitis- Had it 11 times between all my babies. It's the only time I remember wanting to die. So, yes, you have my sympathies and I wish I was closer to help! And I have heard lots of people say they become antisocial after a while at the Village because its so hard to get to know people and then they leave. I am envious of your time there though. Enjoy it while you can!!!

Janelle, I loved this post. Mostly because I've wondered how you guys have been. And second, because I enjoyed how you reported on everything. First of all, yes mastitis can be mildly uncomfortably to being deathly (I got it once with both kids and I'm expecting it sometime). I got the deathly version when Spencer was 9 months (and I thought, really? At 9 months when I'm hardly nursing?). As I tell people...I've never been more sick than when I've had that. AWFUL! So I'm so, so sorry. Sorry, too, that you're losing friends. Can't believe you did that trip in a week!!!! you're amazing. Hope you're getting sleep soon....but that makes me think I'm not going to get this boy to sleep any time soon. shoot.

Oh, and Ems showed me the happy birthday video where Dallin had to pause to remember Ruby's name. I LOVED that. Laughed so hard. Something my dad would do.:)

We MUST have a Harry Potter chat. I'm sorry about the mastitis. Hope you're feeling better. Other than that, it sounds like you've had a great summer! :)

Love the update. So sorry about mastitis. I've both kinds - the mild kind and the feel-like-I'm-gonna-die kind. Hope you're done with it! If I lived anywhere close to you, I would babysit those three darlings any time!!!!! It is refreshing to get a little spruced up and go out once in a while.

After nursing 9 babies I know what you're talking about! The worse sickness ever!!! Loved hearing about your summer. So glad that Rudy slept through the night. Hopefully, Norah will soon join her. You're a trooper to keep everything going while Dallin's nose is in a book!
Love you!
Mom & Dad Lewis

PS I've heard that 24K is helping with mastitis!

Twenty-five is SOOOO not old! :)

If you guys ever end up living around here (which I seriously doubt with the PhD and all), our hubbies are destined to be bffs. They can compare book notes. And we won't move on ya, I promise.
