Please pardon my blogging hiatus. It's funny, I thought that as my girls got older I'd be less busy. Ha! Not so. They simply nap less, make more messes, attempt to eat more carpet fluff if I don't vacuum twice a day, and want to be held more. Cute, edible, delicious, time consuming tiny humans.
Some developments:
-Dorothy has been in heaven this summer, especially because she is old enough to play outside by herself. I don't feel like a parent this summer, because she wakes up, gets herself dressed, eats, then runs out the door. Except for punctuated interactions in which I call her in and force her to eat/put on sunscreen/go to the bathroom/stay hydrated, I hardly see her.
She was sick the other day and, horror of horrors, had to stay inside to protect her friends from her germy-ness. This was a great calamity. Luckily, she spotted one of her favorite friends outside and they spent nearly a half an hour talking to each other through our window. I love living here. There is never a shortage of nice friends.
-We bought a new living room chair (nothing special, just a craigslist find). It has been the fought over seat ever since we brought it home. The other morning, Dallin was sitting in it reading when Dorothy woke up and stumbled out to the couch in her sleepy state. She looked at him for a long time, then finally spoke. Here was how it went.
Dot: Daddy, can I sit there?
Dallin: No, I'm sitting here right now. You can sit on the couch.
Dot: But I want to sit there.
Dallin: Sorry, Dorothy.
Dot: But Daddy, white (the color of the chair) is my FAVORITE color.
Dallin: I thought pink was your favorite color.
Dot: No, I don't like pink anymore.
Dallin is a nice Dad. He caved. Dorothy sat there, so proud of herself, for a while.
-The. Babies. Are. Crawling. Well, it's not your traditional crawling. Norah is a fabulous speed-army crawler. Ruby does something a bit inefficient that resembles a cross between the worm (you know, the 80s dance move) and the butterfly stroke. I've been thinking about this day with a mixture of excitement and terror. I'm glad it's here though. They seem so much happier being able to get to things they want.
Dorothy is not so happy. They keep messing up her picnics and doll bed set ups.
I now have a fan club that follows me whimpering should I leave the room.
Really, I have to vacuum twice a day now. (Not so bad, I can still vacuum the whole place keeping it plugged in to one outlet. Booya. Student apartments rock.)
Norah. Drinking from cups at its finest.
Ruby learned how to take her diaper cover off. This is what I came in to after nap time. Thank goodness it wasn't a number two in there.

Cleanliness is next to godliness, I say. I was still finding mango juice in random places the next day.

I was so shocked that Norah could already drink from a cup so well and then realized it was upside down. Hahahaha! Love it! And the conversation between Dot an Dallin was hilarious.....I'm so impressed you bought a white chair. White would not last long with Evelyn
I have been wondering where Janelle the faithful blogger had gone. Yes, you need all your eyes with crawling babies, huh? :) I remember when you could vacuum the whole house with one outlet. I loved that and miss that (but don't miss cramped quarters :) I remember the day Kenna could run off with friends by herself. It felt so scary and so liberating at the same time. Those girls are adorable!
So fun to read your update. We've missed it! But you definitely have your hands full, especially now the girls are crawling. Dorothy, good job on manipulating! How do they learn that so early in life?!? I'm trying to imagine Dorothy heading out the door on her own. It's nice you live in such a confined area. She's a big girl now!
Oh loved the pictures and the comments. What a nice daddy and great mommy. Not only is it one outlet but vacuuming takes only 4 minutes and 45 seconds. Efficient - great apartment.
What a fun update! Your girls are all so cute. Enjoy your days of one outlet for vaccuming. They'll be gone before you know it. (I still miss my Provo studio condo. I could deep clean it in 2-hrs flat.)
