Decorating Mania!

I am weird. Sometimes things that are popular or normal make me balk-- I want to be different. Cue really short haircut.
My plan for decorating wherever we end up, be it house or apartment, is a big mix of vintage, mod, artistic, whimsical, crafty, but all in all, very cheap. And DEFINITELY not normal or mass produced looking. I want to reupholster chairs, make cool pillows.... I have lots of ideas of how to do everything myself.

I am SO excited. I love having a project. And I think I'll enjoy sifting through Craigslist and thrift stores until I find just what I want. I love sewing and feeling creative and thrifty. I think I can do this, too. Updates on my progress to follow. Rest assured I won't get too ambitious. For example, I would not actually reupholster a complicated chair myself. I'd either hire someone, or pick a chair like the one below. That one would be easy to make a new cushion for.

Here are some general inspirational pictures of what I like. What do you think?

I really want a tree like this with shelves, though less girl-ish, somewhere in my house.

A stack of cushions, like this one, by the living room couch-- I like that. There was an article about this. She made this cushion out of extra upholstery fabric stuffed with old sweatshirts. So easy.

I could totally make something like this quote.

Trees again. I like the owl.

I have alphabet cards like this ready for Dorothy's room, actually.

Yea! Wish me luck! I should really do other things then spend my evenings looking at decorating blogs....

have you been preapproved for a house in Indiana?

I appreciate creativity because I don't have much. I'm excited to see what you'll do! (And I think you're allowed an hour or two of blog-searching every night. Decorating is your hobby and you need some leisure time!)

Our mortgage broker says we'll be preapproved after we have 30 days of pay stubs. But we'll make sure to have an official preapproval from a lender before we do anything. Chances are, we'll buy a house. I just don't want to jinx it.
